PE

PE vision

Our aim is to utilise exceptional teaching and learning to inspire lifelong sporting participation by providing opportunities for all.

The PE department are dedicated to equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to not only succeed in sport but also in the wider community. We have a real passion for extracurricular sport and the role it plays in the holistic development of our students. We firmly believe that by offering sporting opportunities in a wide range of sports, both in and out of lessons, we are contributing to the mental, physical and social well-being of our students. Whilst giving them the opportunity to further develop their God given talents.

Our diverse KS3 and KS4 programme is designed to enable pupils to experience greater independence, leadership and ownership in their lessons. There is an emphasis on pupils being active. Pupils experience varied roles such as coach, referee, and team manager and will have sporting, recreational and health and well-being promoting opportunities. These explorative and flexible methods of content delivery promote compassion and courage from our students, contributing to their overall character development.

Curriculum team

Mrs K Carlin – Curriculum Leader

In addition to option PE students receive 2 hours of core PE per fortnight. KS4 core PE focuses on developing opportunities for lifelong sporting participation and enjoyment.

Enrichment opportunities

Our strong extracurricular program ensures opportunities for all whilst also promoting the importance of competitive sport. The PE department has teams that enter in a large variety of local sporting competitions. As a result of our recent successes we have a number of students that currently compete in Area, County and National teams.

The passion and commitment from the department has resulted in superb participation rates across all sports. This is evident in the number of students we have attending area competitions and trials. We currently boast team and individual success in Football, Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Cricket, Athletics, Cross-Country, Dance, Gymnastics, Golf, Hockey, Equestrian, Swimming, Table-Tennis, and Badminton.

✨ Year 7 Retreat: Looking back, walking forwards ✝️

This time last week our fabulous year 7 spent the day on retreat reflecting on their first year here at SFX and looking forward to what next year may bring.

Whilst exploring Easby Abbey and St Agatha’s church students explored the theme “Looking back, walking forward”, reflecting how things can change over time, including ourselves.

Through games, activities, discussion, prayer and reflection, students considered what has changed in themselves this year and what further changes we wish to see in ourselves and each other as we grow together.

The day concluded with a wonderful Eucharist led by Rev Simon and then the obligatory visit for ice cream!

We are incredibly proud of all our Year 7 students for the enthusiasm, openness and maturity they showed throughout the retreat and their first year at SFX. They represented the school brilliantly and fully embraced every part of the experience. ✨

Well done to 7 Rievaulx who collected not only the highest attending form of the fortnight, but also the highest attending form year to date - Mrs Coxon is very proud of her form!
