Technology vision

Design and Technology department is committed to delivering a curriculum accessible to all, where pupils combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking to design and make products and systems that meet human needs. Pupils are encouraged to question the world around them, as stewards we expect them to consider the impact of the products they design and use. Pupils become confident learners, problem solvers and have the courage to make mistakes. The subject promotes the school ethos ‘Love of God, Love of Neighbour’ encouraging pupils to support each other in practical work.

Enrichment opportunities

In technology we offer a variety of clubs and enrichments activities throughout the academic year.

These include; a KS3 technology club to enable students to further develop practical skills using a variety of materials. KS3 textiles club gives students an opportunity to practise using the textiles machinery to develop a range of projects.

CAD/CAM club is available to KS3 students to develop their 3D designing skills and laser cutting projects.

All KS3 clubs are run by our GCSE students who are our student leaders for technology.

The workshop is always open and available for KS4 students to use, where students can choose their own products to make with support.

Opportunities are created throughout the year for students to develop and present their skills in a range of baking and cooking activities. These include; Macmillan coffee morning, open evening, Easter bake off and Christmas fayre.

We work with Science and Maths to support and engage students in STEM activities.

We are also representing the school at the annual local Rotary Club (North Group) Technology Tournament.

Students are given at the start of the school year a range of enrichment activities to challenge and further inspire, we look forward to seeing their completed work.
